SRC (Student Representitive Council)

On the Friday before the term 2 holidays I was running for SRC, for this I needed to prepare a speech. There were only 3 boys running for SRC which was a surprise to me because in past years there is normally about 10 boys. We did the speech before recces and that’s all I could think about before they did the announcing after lunch. it was time for the teacher to tell us who the the winner was this is how she did it. In third place was Jay 225 In second place and the proxy for the next too semesters is MFS11 Which was sad but funny because he was proxy last semester and really wanted to be a SRC.  I won I said to myself and I was very happy to get nominated and finally get to be a SRC for my class.  This means I will have to attend meetings and organise special events that get to happen in our school. I currently wear a badge which means when younger students need something they can come to me because thats my duty to step up, be a leader and help them. I am really glad to be an SRC for my final 2 terms at primary school organising special events and end of year graduation.

This is a bit of a late post but I wanted to do it, so its better late then never wright.

Ian Thorpe – High Flyer Task

Ian James Thorpe was born on the 13 of October 1982 in Sydney, New South Wales, nicknamed the Thorpedo or Thorpey, is a former Australian freestyle swimmer. He has won five Olympic gold medals, the most won by any Australian, and in 2001 he became the first person to win six gold medals in one World Championship.  In total, Thorpe has won eleven World Championship golds, the second-highest number of any swimmer.  Thorpe was the first person to have been named World Swimmer of the Year four times by Swimming World Magazine,  and was the Australian swimmer of the year from 1999 to 2003. His athletic achievements made him one of Australia’s most popular athletes, and he was recognised as the Young Australian of the Year in 2000.  Thorpe was a large baby waying in at 4.1 kilograms and measured 0.59 m In length at birth.  Growing up in the suburb of Milperra New South Wales he grew up in a sporting family.  His dad Ken was a great cricketer at junior level, representing Bankstown Cricket Club in Sydney’s district competition. A talented batsman, he once topped the season’s batting averages ahead of former Australian captain Bob Simpson. However, paternal pressure detracted from Ken’s enjoyment of cricket, and he retired at the age of 26. Ian’s mum Margaret played A-grade netball,  but unfortunally he did not inherit his parents’ ball skills. His elder sister Christina was advised to take up swimming to strengthen a broken wrist, so by chance, the five-year-old Thorpe followed her into the pool. Due to his unhappy experiences, Ken  regarded enjoyment as the most critical aspect of his children’s participation in sport.  He ended up taking part in many great events in his future years but he ended up retiring in November 2006 at the age of 23.  He has been one of my many favourite australian icons and I will never forget staying up really late at night and watching him win all his gold medals in the 2004 summer Olyimpics.

Why is the world coming to Adelaide?

In term 3 our class and I have been working on a Inquiry Unit question Why is the world coming to Adelaide?  Our final task was to create a rap in a group of three and peform to the whole class and then we have to rap our rap that unpacks.  My group was Me the Samster, Footirian and No No.  From my point of view we went really well and I think we got quite good marks even though we haven’t got our marks back yet.

So over the past five weeks we have been working on this rap, a task that we had to do before we performed our rap. We had to make or get a box that was a substitute for a suitcase, It would have some artifacts and family memorabilia, like family recipes and things like very special past down through the generations jewellery.  We had to go through other peoples groups and gather as much information as we could about that groups migrant. Then we report back to that group and say why they came over and how. After we report back that group peforms their rap. Thats why its called the rap that unpacks.

Here are my rap lyrics and I will put my group singing it on later

RAP

His name is mamush mesay

He immigrated to SA,

He left Ethiopia to start a new life

With his one child and his beautiful wife,

He’s not a refugee he didn’t try to flee

He got sponsored for his skill in butchery,

He came on a boat to Adelaide that year

And all he had was fear, fear, fear,

He came with his wife and daughter

They thoughte it would be good to

See what they good be cause

Now they got some opportunity,

He came on a boat to Adelaide that year

And all he had was fear, fear, fear,

It took one day

On the 21st may,

He wanted to start a new life

So he brought his favourite butcher knife,

He used his pots and pans

Never to forget his fans,

He came on a boat to Adelaide that year

And all he had was fear, fear, fear,

My child was seven

The day my grandad went to heaven,

I wrote a few notes in my journal that day

Although they got lost on the way to S.A

He had a few things to remember my dad

All the photos of him when he was a lad,

He came on a boat to Adelaide that year

And all He had was fear, fear, fear,

The day he left he had a bottle of ale

Not by himself but with my best friend Dale,

They have been friends quite some time

Now he has to say goodbye to a good friend of mine,

Ethiopia was a good place

It’s were He learnt to tie my shoelace,

He came on a boat to Adelaide that year

And all he had was fear, fear, fear,

He was very sad to leave his family,

But if he didn’t he’d end up tradgically.

What proof is there that other cultures have made their home is Adelaide?

In this blog post my task today my is task today is to write about what proof is their that made their home in Adeliade. People who have made their homes because of wars in their home country’s and other reasons like that.

When you look around there are alot of different cultures in every day life like food. We have italian dishes like Pasta,Pizza and we can’t forget other country’s like the Greek Yiros and Souvalaki. Even when you go into town you cant miss the massive china town where they have all the different chinese festivals. There are also many chinese restaraunts along with British pubs wich I just happen to go to last night called the Rat ‘n’ Parrot.

There are also things like churches were people of all religions can go on a sunday morning or on whatever day they go to pray, There are also many funtion rooms were people from different religions go to a funtion room and teach others about there beliefs and may teach them how do make things .

All and all there are many different cultures that have moved to adelaide from the lovely taste of Italian cuzine to all the different types of churches.

Thats it for me see you on my next post                                    Later :)

Leadership Quote

Quote:

Leaders grow, they are not made.

Explanation:

My understanding of this is that Leaders have to grow they are not born like that they don’t suddenly get it, they have to work for it you have to learn it practise it and then you will get it.  It means that all the leaders like Barrack Obama, C. Ronaldo and others have to work for there right.  They have been through the steps they have gone the hard yards and they have earn’t it and most of all they always say WE they don’t go around saying I’m a leader do what I say now.

Example:

Leaders grow by learning from others and what they do.

Leaders grow like a leaf on a tree or a plant of stalk.  They are no suddenly there when they are planted you don’t see them straight away they grow in the rain and they come when there ready.

Prisoners used nail clippers to escape jail

A JAIL BREAK

Last summer in Saskatchewan, Canada.  Six-high risk prisoners were chipping away at the cell trying to make a route to freedom.  After four long hard months the finally broke through using only the nail clippers.  While some inmates were playing cards carfully positioned the table to block the view of the guards, while the others are chipping away at the wall.  After the prison break the Saskatchewan goverment named the nail clippers and makeshift tools the “Devils tools”.

The prisoners where charged of murder just if you were wondering.

Ipods In Class – Position Statement

Hey Guys I’m here to write a position statement on the iPods in class policy,

Let’s stop livin’ in the past and iPods are the key to the present.  Our classroom has been discussing the use of ipods in our classroom. I am here to back up the position.

The article I read in class was also backing up the topic.  It showed that people who use iPods will actually work better.  the article showed that the two people who were using iPods can concentrate.  They were keeping from getting distracted and because they only have one ear bud in, they can keep a one one relationship with the teacher.

It is interresting, the two people who were listening to iPods actually had the two highest averages in the class.  best of all iPods are portable.  Do you have an iPod or MP3?

Do you like Music? Do you find it hard to stay on task in class? It has been proven that people stay on track, when using iPods or MP3’s.

In on clusion I beleive that iPods should be able to be used in class.  We need some modern day technolagy in here.

If you back up the statement I would like to hear from you!  talk to you soon Samster :)
